THIS ONE ISN'T ON THE TABLE BELOW...DUE TO IT THE GUN ISSUE WAS A 'RIDER' ON A HEALTH BILL FOR NATIVE AMERICANS....

February 2nd 1998 a Senate bill S1200 which was a bill for Health care for Indigenous Peoples:  Vote to fund and expand programs related to Native American health care, that includes the following plus two amendments: the first Amendment (S Amdt 3896) would prohibit redirecting these moneys for abortions. (a McCain Co-sponsor).  The second Amendment to S1200 ( S Amdt 4070) sponsored by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC),  would prohibit redirecting these moneys to be used for decreasing gun ownership, or "carry out any anti-firearm program, gun buy-back program, or program to discourage or stigmatize the private ownership of firearms for collecting, hunting, or self-defense."

S1200 passed in the Senate 83-10 with 32 voting;

S Amdt 3986 passed in the Senate 52-42 with 30 voting;

S Amdt 4070 passed in the Senate by 78-11 with 29 voting.  Senators Barack Obama and John McCain did not vote.

Firearms Manufacturers Protection bill S 397

Official Title of Legislation:


S 397: A bill to prohibit civil liability actions from being brought or continued against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition for damages, injunctive or other relief resulting from the misuse of their products by others.

Highlights:

VOTING YES:
-Exempts lawsuits brought against individuals who knowingly transfer a    firearm that will be used to commit a violent or drug-trafficking crime
-Exempts lawsuits against actions that result in death, physical injury or property damage due solely to a product defect
-Calls for the dismissal of all qualified civil liability actions pending on the date of enactment by the court in which the action was brought
-Prohibits the manufacture, import, sale or delivery of armor piercing ammunition, and sets a minimum prison term of 15 years for violations
-Requires all licensed importers, manufacturers and dealers who engage in the transfer of handguns to provide secure gun storage or safety devices (S AMDT 1626: Adopted: 70-30. Record Vote number: 207)
