All of us have
been shocked and deeply saddened at the
widespread devastation caused by the recent
rash of tornadoes and massive flooding
throughout the United States. Hundreds of
our members and their families live and work
in these areas and many have been severely
impacted. We know that family members have
been lost, many homes have been completely
destroyed and others significantly damaged.
When hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated
the lives of our sisters and brothers across
Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi
we stepped up to support them.
Our sisters and brothers whose lives have
been shattered by the recent outbreak of
tornadoes and floods need us now.
The financial, economic and emotional toll
is tremendous. Our members' needs are
short-term (temporary shelter, food,
supplies, clothing, etc.) and longer term
(home repairs, rebuilding, etc.). Their
needs are enormous!
The Steelworkers Charitable and Education
Organization has authorized contributions of
$10,000.00 to start. It is anticipated that
the Steelworkers Humanity Fund in Canada
will also contribute as it did in the
hurricanes Katrina and Rita disasters.
We know that most of you and your locals
will want to help and expect that many of
your members will as well. We strongly urge
you to set up gate collections to raise
funds and/or make direct contributions from
your local union. Your contributions can be
forwarded to the Steelworkers Charitable and
Educational Organization, our non-profit
charitable organization. The monies
contributed will be allocated to providing
assistance to our members most harmed.
When you make out your check, please be sure
to designate that it is for disaster relief.
Make checks payable to the
Steelworkers Charitable and Educational
Organization and mail to:

For individuals, please note that the United Steelworkers Charitable and Education Organization is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and contributions are tax deductible.
This is a terrible tragedy but tragedies bring out the best in human nature and most especially in the hearts of trade unionists. Think of the plight of your brothers and sisters and give generously.
