Financial
Responsibility
So how can we expect to be
taken seriously during negotiations if we as members are not financially
fit enough to pass a strike mandate and face possible strike actions?
We
must all, especially in the teeth of a recession, get our financial
houses in order.
Use
this time before the end of our existing contract wisely. Sit down and
look at our monthly expenses, find where we can save money, budget
expenditures, try to save a couple months wages. Pay down toxic loans if
you can.
We
must not to be so financially vulnerable to where one missed paycheck
puts us one step closer to foreclosure.
We
would like to announce a financial aid seminar based on the popular Dave
Ramsey training series. This will be held at the Union hall at a date to
be determined.
CLC
Labor Picnic
Be sure to remember the Labor Picnic on August 30,
Noon
to
7 PM
at the Nez Perce county Fairgrounds. There will be Burgers &
Hotdogs, games and prizes and lots of fun for the whole family. If you
would like to help out leave a message for Larry Smith @ 746-7357 or
lewisclark-clc@cableone.net.
Safety
Reporting
The reason for reporting an incident serves two
purposes. One, it allows fellow co-workers a chance to see what hazards
exist that they may not be aware of. Second, it will aid in preventing
similar accidents and/or near misses from happening again. Incident
reporting is an OSHA standard and is there for our benefit and
awareness.
It
is important to report all incidents especially if it is a near miss;
this is one of the tools to prevent injuries in the future. To report an
incident, contact your shift supervisor. If your supervisor doesn’t
feel the need to write it up, contact a shop steward. It is your right
to share this information with your co-workers.
