Most high school students don't have much experience balancing a budget or living on a budget. That's fine for now, but what happens when your college-bound student leaves for college?

The Union Plus College Planning Center is a great resource for union families looking to pay for college. Offered in conjunction with the unionized American Education Services (AES), the College Planning Center provides families with financial aid counseling, a step-by-step guide on choosing a school and much more.

• Since 1992, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $2.4 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their secondary education.
• The Union Plus Education Loan program provides low-cost federal loans and private loans with rate reductions for automatic and on-time payments. There is also a strike benefit for education loan holders in good standing.
• The union scholarship database includes more than $4 million in scholarships, with details about eligibility, application deadlines and contact information.

A 51-48 Senate majority backed the Employee Free Choice Act on June 26, 2007, but Republican opposition killed the bill. So even though a majority of the Senate voted to bring the bill to the floor for a vote, a small group of Republicans denied workers a free choice to join a union.
