1. How to protect your car from theft SEND TO A UNION FRIEND
Car theft costs Americans $8 billion a year. Don't be a statistic. Find out here if you are driving one of the "Top 10" most frequently stolen cars.

If you want to protect your car from theft, there are some simple things you can do. In Florida, for example, almost 25% of stolen vehicles had the keys in them! So always take your keys. Also, over 50% of auto thefts occur at night, so park in well-lighted areas. And hide your packages: many auto burglaries are quick, dirty "smash and grab" jobs where the thieves grab only what they can see. Read more anti-theft tips.

Union Plus AIG Auto Insurance policyholders can also get money back for taking a DMV-certified driver safety course. Jerry and Melissa Stump, an Ironworker family from Elkhart, IN, enrolled their daughter Andrea. Says Melissa:

Stump Family with Check"We saved over $400 when we switched to Union Plus Auto Insurance from AIG, and then we got $250 back for Andrea's safety course. The savings is great, the coverage is great, and so is the peace of mind of knowing our daughter is a safer driver."

  Benefits Spotlight
1. Home buying made easy for union members

Whether you are buying a home for the first time or looking to refinance, the Union Plus Mortgage Program is here to help.

For Michael Woods, IUEC Local 1, and his family, buying their first home with the Union Plus Mortgage Program was not only affordable but gave the family peace of mind. "For us, we were really sold on the layoff, lock-out and strike benefits that the program offers," Michael, an Otis elevator mechanic who was on strike for three months in 1993, says. "It was a benefit we didn't want to do without. It put us at ease knowing that we would have that benefit."

And the unique Mortgage Assistance Program, which provides interest free loans to help make mortgage payments during hardships, came through for the Woods' twice; once during a layoff in 2004 and again during a strike last year.

"Without this program, who knows what could have happened, our home could have gone to foreclosure," explains Woods. He adds, "It saved us a lot of anguish and it could not have been more convenient and easy to use."

With the Union Plus Mortgage Program you enjoy:

  • Easy application process
  • Experienced mortgage counselors
  • Reduced closing costs
  • Lowest available rates based on your credit profile
  • Help with making mortgage payments—if you're out of work due to unemployment, disability, strike or layoff
